Rumination
Rumination or repetitive negative thinking can worsen depression and anxiety. Replaying pessimistic thoughts in a continuous loop is toxic and exhausting, physically, mentally, and emotionally. You can break this discouraging cycle. Directing your attention to more positive activities is a helpful place to start. Reconnecting to your creative nature and diverting your attention to something meaningful to you can often stop the hostile merry-go-round.
Around and around we go
in the never-ending show.
As the tornado of thoughts blows
with the ferocity of a crushing flow.
That I am helpless to stop or to slow.
I am well acquainted with this tiresome foe.
Tragically, my brain is the ultimate pro
at completely diminishing my glow.
