The Battle Begins

Bipolar Disorder is a complex mental health condition that can profoundly affect thoughts, emotions, energy, and perception.

What follows is both an introduction to the realities of Bipolar I Disorder and a deeply personal reflection on losing touch with reality, confronting the “predator” within the disease, and fighting toward stability, healing, and hope.

MEET MY PREDATOR

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), bipolar disorder is a chronic mental health condition characterized by significant, often dramatic, shifts in mood, energy, and activity levels. These mood swings alternate between "highs" (mania or hypomania) and "lows" (depression), significantly impacting daily functioning, relationships, and work.

Bipolar Disorder causes significant changes in brain chemistry.

Bipolar Disorder is not curable, but it is treatable and manageable with the help of medical assistance, medication, psychotherapy, tools, and lifestyle habits.

Although the battle can be daunting and debilitating, you can live a healthy, stable, and fulfilling life with Bipolar Disorder.

In my book, Personality Pendulum, I pull back the curtain to reveal the predator in my visions while fighting for my life in the thick of the disease.  I share some of my most embarrassing, vulnerable, and humbling moments in life.  Let’s show this demon for what it really is, an incurable, potentially fatal disease.  At the on-set of Bipolar Disorder I became paralyzed and suffered a complete loss of reality.  I was lost in the dark side of my brain.
